if they came in copper i would say go for it, but the mixed metals is a issue.

Those are in fact the very ones. I know the mixed metal is an issue, that was the topic of the thread. I was wondering if anyone made an aluminum CPU block, but it seems they don't. Why not I wonder? They make aluminum blocks for GPU, northbridge and MOSFETs, but not CPU? Don't GPUs get hotter then CPU's?

main reason is copper conducts heat better, but it's harder and costs more. which is why alot of companies will make an aluminum top or plastic top to cut costs.

you can always make your own.

here is someone who got 4 of them for his build. i don't know the temps but i'm sure they are within reason.

And I had actually come across that "DIY CPU Waterblock" thread in my hunting. Thanks. I won't be making my own, but having one machined to my specs is possible. Depends on the cost, to be honest.

if you can get the material cheap enough i don't see a simple pattern being milled will cost much.

i got some nice plates i was going to try and make my own block since i have an aluminum heater core.

i would stay away from thoose radiators. i cant remember the numbers, but for running a system like yours passive, you would need a small farm of thoose.
i would recomend a 120.2 with random fans in pull config. for cpu only with no oc. and if you just want something that goes, that would be fine. a 120.3 if you want some headroom.

i cant even run my system passive with a mo-ra 2 pro radiator in a cold room, so forget about the other alu ones, even though they are made for passive.

a xspc delta v.3 would do you good, along with a ddc pump with stock top

really? what setup is it cooling? i can run my q6600 and 9800GTX, both stock but loaded passive with my 3 triple rads and 1 pump running. temps are gross (64C i believe it was) but still worked fine an hour in.

Rule 1 don't buy Thermaltake. Even if you put anti corrosive coolant in a mixed metal loop (like I did) the alu will corrode, my CPU block top took less then 3 months to start corroding. If you are looking for a good all in one unit to cool the CPU only, you can't go past the new OCZ unit, it is cheap, almost identical to the Asetek units and cools bloody well.

that time it was cooling a phenom x4 9850be and a 4870. ran it for two hours and the temps stalled at 59c on both cpu and gpu. and stayd there for a couple of hours. if i put the system on load it would go
if you put load on the system the temps will eventually climb. learned that the hard way, when i burned my first 4870 card... forgot to put the fans on the radiator after a lan. so i can confirm that it WONT work

i wouldnt say "bloody well" since it only cools 10c better than a retail cooler... a good air cooler would do better. IMO it performs horible


edit, lol... didnt see you were talking about the ocz unit. but i cant imagin it being much better?
