Default Hard drive spins up and down while sitting Idle

Every time I go to sleep I leave my computer on. All night I cant hear my external hard drive spinning down the reinitializing and spinning back up.
Is there any way I can get it to not spin down?
This on and off spinning is getting very annoying.

    Thanks,
    Indybird

If it is Vista you can try changing around your power saving plan.
Go to Screen Saver->power plan-> change plan settings->advanced:
Make sure you have the computer turning off the HDD after a set time
Also, Enable the USB sleep feature.

    that might do it.

    Core 2 Duo E6550

    WD 120g

The HDD options only change the internal HDD. Ill have to try the USB Sleep feature.
