    Default Case from scratch project

This was my first major modding project. I'd done enough cutting holes in things, rigging up lights and etc that I decided that what I would do next is build a case pretty much from scratch out of aluminum. The framework is constructed out of 1"x"1 1/16in thick square tubing. (even though extrusion is shown in the drawing I am using sq tubing)

Here is a back quarter view.

    case dimensions

I have designed the entire case using Autodesk Inventor Pro 2011

I liked the vertical motherboard mounting style of the raven 2 so I decided to implement that in my design.

I divided the case into thermally isolated chambers for the motherboard, power supply and optical drives, and hard drives.

I will be using a 7in MIMO USB monitor which I have integrated into the case.

The 2 frame pieces are now welded:

They took a professional welder 4 hours to finish

The plates were laser cut. Here are some pics of the hot action.

    And a video

I took the plates and just tried laying them out on the frame by hand.

And here is all the awesome hardware from PPCs!

motherboard tray hack sawed and bent to fit into case securely using sheet metal screws. I bolted the 2 main frame pieces together.

A difference you may notice is that I took a hack saw to the upper frame piece to make clearance for the motherboard tray

    alternate view

    Major progress!

The motherboard tray is now secured to the case with 3 screws and 2 L brackets with 2 screws each.

    partial assembly

external disk drive and hard drive cages secured

Camouflage applied to plates and final assembly

alternate fan scheme. On its side to give a good view of hardware

Nice camo effect how did you achieve that? Looking very complicated but very cool, don't think I've ever owned a pc with so many bits in it

jesus man you could fling that thing out the window on the highway, have some cars hit it, pick it up plug it in and it'd still work.
