MrSlacker is right, cold cathodes are the best way to go. I suggest going with quality parts over cheap ones though, I've got 2 inverters from SunBeam that have burnt out. And when I say burnt out I mean they nearly caught the rest of my case on fire. My pair of inverters from Ultra are much better. You can find them on Xoxide.com, or a number of other places I'm sure.
i also heard that CoolerMaster ones are pretty good
cold cathodes are good but dangerous. budget inverters tend to blow up or catch on fire as AKA pointed out. i think you would be better off with some(5) ultra bright LED's, in different spots. you would have to design the power delivery for them and might be couple dollars expensive, but they will give you a lot of flexibility in terms of what you want to light up. leds are also a lot safer and you wont need to worry about ure case catching on fire.
