Probably use the saw blade method. Gonna look for one today.
I think that calls for a worklog Kayin!
When I find a blade, will do.
My fave is the classic Buck.
In a time of chimpanzees I was a monkey.
Although definitely not my style, my first knife was a buck of the same basic style when I was a young kid and they are heirloom quality.
EDIT: I picked up a Jeep "rescue knife" at Big 5 today for 11.99. It's a neat looking knife (sorta) but it's a cheapy. I knew it wasn't quality but picked it up just to have. I'm pretty shocked the MSRP was $49.99!
Almost identical to this one except skeletonized.
This guy was their nicest knife but they wanted 50 bucks for it... It's worth it but can be had much cheaper since it's an older model. (CRKT Crawford, Falcon.)
this is the first real knife i ever had, the Buck 119. i love it, though my mom took it from me when she found it in my school bag one time... 'looking for whiteout...' its been 5 years and i've yet to get it back .

My first knife was a buck just like crimson posted. I still have it along with my grandfathers buck he carried for 25+ years. Both still hold edges for weeks with the proper honing.
Kayin I made a knife back in high school using a piece of 3/8" bar stock, an oxy/acetylene torch, hammer and anvil. I wasted a bottle of oxygen on that knife. It took me a week on and off to get the shape and another month with files and a hone to put an edge on it. Then I got the bright idea to anneal it like I saw a guy do on tv. So I filled a bucket up with water, got the knife as hot as I could with out punching a hole through it and dumped it in the bucket. It made it hard alright. So hard I could not put an edge back on it with a hone. It took a belt sander to do it and that left a crappy edge. I scrapped it and never revisited it. I do have an old cross cut 2 person tree saw dating back to my grandfathers grandfather that I always wanted to make a knife out of. It would make plenty of blade blanks but I cant bring myself to cut it up. Please do post a worklog and I will even post something about it on http://themakersworkbench.com
