OK wait.. I need to clarify this..

Your netgear router is a modem+router, but no wifi, and you want to connect it to your new wifi router. Right?

IF SO.. turn on the wifi router, and connect to it with a computer. In the wifi router settings, hardcode the LAN IP address to something in the same subnet as your Netgear router (usually 192.168.x.x). Configure the wifi settings and security that you want, then turn off the built in DHCP server.

Connect a cable (regualr should work, crossover not needed) from one of the LAN ports on your Netgear router to one of the LAN ports on the wifi router, and connect to it again. Done.

The Netgear router is now routing and assigning addresses by DHCP, and the new wifi router is working strictly as an access point.
