I reccommend the Paasche VL airbrush for beginners. It is very well made, good price and you can throw just about any fluid through it if you thin the liquid properly. It will last a lifetime when you take care of it as you would any tool, and replacement parts/accessories are very easy to get. Do not get anything less than a dual (sometimes called double action) action airbrush. With dual action, one trigger regulates the air pressure AND volume of paint flow for precise painting.

Here is a refference for price. Compressors go from about $100 to $2,000.00. The more you pay, the more lightweight, quiet, and reliable they are.
It is available worldwide, and continues to be the standard basic airbrush that all ohters are judged by. I have since upgraded to an expensive Iwata, but I cut my teeth on the VL, and still use it.

Crimson is all over this one. He could not be more right. It sounds like exactly what your looking for is the Paasche VL. It's been around forever and it was my first airbrush also.Could someone recommend a good airbrush.
Here's where it gets even better. They make it with a cool metal handle also now. It's call the Paasche VL Millennium.
The Pic is the link to the Paasche site. If your wondering all the brushes on this page are Paasche VL. They just make like 8 different models.
I'm 100% behind Crimson's recommendation. The VL is by far the best beginner airbrush out there.

As a beginner, you really shouldn't need the light and heavy tips and needles. You can always get them later if you want them.the one you posted commando, it says its only a medium, with the paints is that recommended?
The medium will be what you use 99% of the time. Part of learning to airbrush is learning to thin out your airbrush paint to work with whatever setup you have. Trying to push thick paint through your airbrush, even with the heavy tip and needle, is going to frustrate you anyway.
I think if you ask those that have this brush setup you'll find that they all probably use just the medium tip and needle.
