How do I make files smaller? Like video files? I heard there is a way to do that like in a zip file or something? and you can make a 500MB file into a 50MB???

You wont see that much of an improvment. You can reduce the resolution of the video to make it smaller. Use better file compresion (eg, avi, mpeg, mov).
You can also zip the file but it doesnt compress allready compressed files very well.

Other than use a better video compressor, I can't think of anything.
Putting it in a .zip folder wouldn't help it would probably go from 500 to 499 (Literally )

lol this is a bummer... hmm... well how do you edit movies??
lmao.. ok so I edited a movie right?? The file is now BIGGER than the original!?? Whats with that??
If you edited an MPEG file, you'll need to re-compress it back into an MPEG. If i was you, i'd do a little research on video formats and editting.

and if you plan on transporting it like through the internet, hense a file size limitation, i suggest using a program like winRAR or another of those RAR imitations...
If your making a movie let me give you a tip. Compress everything at the end unless you don't have the space. I would use the mpeg of divx format. If you do need to compress a video file, you can use windows media player. Just open the video file within the program and then hit "save movie file". Then as you go through the wizard you will see a ton different compression settings that are tailored for things like DVD and Internet. It's pretty straight forward.
I would also look into divx and xvid compression tools as well as the option of video formats
