So I just got an AMD FX-6300 as part of my downsize of my tower (Sold my 2500K and mobo for $400) and plugged it in, attached my Prolimatech cooler, and booted into idle temps around 56*C. I had heard that this chip was held in high regard for overclocking capability, and was a little disappointing with the thermals, so i took it out, lapped it with 600 grit until the bowl shape was gone, and fired it back up. End result is an idle temp of 30*C under the same settings and ambient temps... This is the 2nd chip i've had to do this to, (the first being my 2500k).
Has anyone here had similar experiences or difficulties?
After I get my case in tomorrow (Silverstone SG09B by the way) I'll be doing a mini review, and messing around with overclocking this chip. I've heard 4.5 is a pretty safe bet, i'm going to see how the super tiny case handles the system i'm packing in there.
