    Default Dynex router upgrading

    In electronics, ever feel like someone is putting a Crotch Rocket onto the frame of a moped, then putting a rivet into the throttle?

    It sure feels like it with this wireless router.

    Anyway, I was getting some information in the other thread about my Dynex router, and it is definitely mod-worthy, and VERY mod-capable.

    The flash chip is a 3.3V 8-pin serial flash that is ~3-5MM square. Need to get out a ruler before I buy the replacement.
    The Broadcom chip had USB 2.0 headers, but Broadcom/Dynex decided not to include headers.

    BUT, it can handle 32MB flash chips, and possibly stacking!

    If all goes well, I can throw the best DD-WRT onto this baby, post the successful results on the DD-WRT forums, and have a decent router for less than $10!

    Although, you, as modders, are going to help me with the serial-ing/JTAGing if needed. Hopefully, I can just throw the new chip in and TFTP the DD-WRT file at it.

    So, I'm looking for a 32MB SMD 5MM 8-pin serial flash chip.

    Where to get one?

    Well, I've found chips, but they're 32 megaBIT, not megaBYTE.

    Still, that'd be good size, yeah?

    32Mb->B=32/8->4.

    Better than what I had before, but I wanna max this baby out! Make it the best router for under $10!

    This is a 4MB flash that has the same serial bus clock speed, from the same manufacturer. The package you are looking for is the 300mil 8-PDIP. You're going to have a heck of a time finding a place that sells it though. This is the largest capacity I've found with that package size and bus clock.

    This one is 8MB, with the same bus clock speed, but the chip is a different size. The pinout is the same and I would imagine that if you used short enough jumper wires, you could rig this one in.
