Do you have win vista or 7? Check the experience index if you do. I'm not sure what kind of performance you're getting at 4.2. I'd assume it's still pretty good.
    I'll procrastinate tomorrow.

Yeah, at that point I think the e8600 will be your bottleneck. Whether a qx9650 will change that, I'm not sure. For programs that take advantage of more than two cores, yes. For programs that don't, no. Also, as a point of interest, I think with a qx9650 your bottleneck will then be the speed of your RAM.

The c2d would very likley bottle the 2x570. But a quad core would help depending on the program... ex. Bfbc2 your gpu's would very likley barely sweat while your CPU is going nuts.
    Also... I went i7 for $300 ish

Quad would almost definitely help - my stock Q6700 at 2.67 gets a 7.2

Ya I agree with the post about how not all programs can take full advantage of four cores yet. I noticed that on your Mobo the max RAM is DDR2 at 1066, that could be slightly bottlenecking you. So if you do go to 4 cores, a RAM upgrade is in order, which means a new motherboard. Hope this helps.

At that point he might as well upgrade to Sandy Bridge or AM3 with DDR3. Besides, 1066 is about as high as DDR2 goes.

I'm saying if he keeps the setup then drops in a Quad Core his new bottleneck would be the RAM in my opinion. I know 1066 is the highest for DDR2, that's why I said to get a new Mobo for DDR3.
