OK, a random, quick project to appeal to the nerd in all of us
Went to the Goodwill to look for a cable. You'll never know what you'll find. In this case I found something interesting.
It seems to be a security camera control station. Lots of buttons and switches, hehehe...
Unfortunately I didn't get real good before pics, but here's what I've done.
Simple nice handle;
Some feet;
This is the mainboard I pulled out;
A battery pack to install;
This is the backside of the box;
The feet you see there were already there,
And the backside of the mainboard. All the inputs/outputs that that the holes in the case are for;
Here's the inside of the box, mainboard gone and battery pack installed;
There was no latch or lock on this, so a simple cabinet latch;
Installed;
And here's the cool factor.
That's what the battery pack was for. I used on of the existing switches and re-wired it as a power switch. When on, a press of the button will make the led of that button come on.
All that's left is to cut some pieces of sheet metal and rivet them into place to close the holes in the back. Other than that, that's about all I'm going to do to it.
I can't wait to take it to my electronics class!
I had no idea what I was going to use this for when I got it, but once I realized the cover was actually hinged, the ideas rolled in.
Not bad for $8
