    Smart Glass in a PC

    Hey, Whats that in there?

Oh, its a ridiculous X58 triple SLi computer

(its glass with a opaque LCD screen inside, Voltage off = frosted glass effect, Voltage on = Clear glass)

Can i claim 1st for using smart glass in a gaming PC for a window?

No you didn't! I've been wanting to do that for a long time! Where did you get it and what did it cost?

my buddy got that piece of glass as a sample from a polyvision salesmen when he stopped by diamond windows to show them those windows for the new Devon energy tower here in okc (they have the contract for it)

paul (the plant manager) knows my buddy likes odd ball things, and didn't know what else to do with it.. so he gave it to him.

    Comes from SPD systems

Yes, you do get a cookie. In fact, have two. (Even if the triple-SLI is missing from the "ridiculous X58 triple SLi computer". )

Do you know how it works? It says it's just an LCD panel inside..makes me wonder if I could get a similar effect with the LCD panel from a monitor..just doing a blank white screen should work, yes?

It's a polymer developed by a guy back in the 1980's

Polymer dispersed liquid crystals were invented at Kent State University in 1983. A major application of these materials is in switchable windows.

I'd say that window is about 1/2 thick. its two pieces of glass, with that screen in the middle.

Windows runs on 24v, and my buddy used a relay to turn it on, the "turbo" button will manually switch the glass,CCFL's and the LED read out in the front, that'll switch between BUD and 420 (his online tag is bud420)

It's also dimmable and response time is awesome for it... know what that means? We're going to use a CCFL sound module and make it sound senstive, so when theres music going, it goes from dark and opaque, To clear and light up with blue CCFL's... ought to be cool

    Specs 2 be

Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz Quad core LGA 1366 (will overclock)
    6x 1024 Crucial Ballistix LED, 6.0GB total DDR3-1600 (3 red,3 blue)
    2x BFG GTX260 Core 55 896MB
    160GB SSD
    1.0TB HDD,1.5TB HDD, 2x 250HDD
    Azuentec Forte 7.1 PCI-e
    CoolIT vantage A.L.C

Everything but the 2nd GPU and the Vantage are already purchased.

Ought to be one hell of a computer when finished.. will post moar pics and probably a youtube video when its all together.

Thanks for all the comments and support, probably wouldn't of ever done it with out some influence from you guys.

Next up is breaking it back down and doing the HDD color changing activity light gauge (yall will trip about this to) getting all the cables tucked away, then it'll be tossin the hardware in and puttin windows and everything else on it.
