    Default Kde 4.2

Anyone seen the new KDE interface? It is now included in Kubuntu and other bases using KDE.

The two icons in the upper right and lower left corners are the Plasma buttons, and give the user the ability to add widgets, remove widgets, and resize the taskbar.

KDE 4.2 runs Plasma, and it does so very well, even on my Eee 701 with 1 GB of memory (removed SWAP).

The new user interface includes widgets and plenty of pleasing graphical effects. The entirity was created for maximum ease of use and the ability to change its appearance for smaller or larger screens.

Overall, I like the improvements. They have added a whole new level of functionality, and are geared towards changing for the future.

And almost identical to the Windows 7 interface.

KDE really looks polished now. For so many years we where stuck with ver3 which looked clunky compared to gnome and that is saying something.

I think if properly configured it is one of the better looking operating systems out there it even holds a candle to apples osx.

I'm going to try Kubuntu right after windows 7. I have to replace the OS on my Toshiba laptop, so I'm up for anything.

I installed it on my Fedora 10 laptop, nice but I am sticking to gnome for the time being. I may or may not try using it again in the future, for now I uninstalled it. One issue I had with it was the widget or whatever for getting weather reports, I could not get it to find my locals due to foreign weather services.

I found KDE to be a bit clunky and not as customizable as I'd like, looks-wise. I really wanted to like it because it does look pretty slick. But here I am, back to Gnome. Maybe when I build a more powerful PC some of the problems will disappear.

I too thought of KDE immediately when I saw the first Windows 7 screen captures. Windows always has been prone to mimicking the competition...
