    Default Hardcano 12

Is the Hardcano12 an HDD cooler?

    Hi folks

I'm building in a thermaltake Armour this weekend, using a W.D 10Krpm Raptor. W.D recommends some additional cooling, so I decided on the Hardcano 12. At NewEgg, ZZF, and other parts suppliers it's always listed in their HDD cooling section.

But in all the reviews I've read since ordering it, and before ordering it, I never notice anything about mounting an HDD in it. Now at CoolerGuys it's listed in their Accesories section.

Did I buy a fan controller and not an HHDCooler/Fan Controller?

Also on a related topic. Is the Hardcano 14 available anywhere? It's style is perfect for my case, and if I now have a Fan controller and not an HDD cooler, I'd like to use the Hardcano 14 for my harddrive.

I'm not a big multi-media person so the Thermaltake Armour will look sort of empty if I don't have additional things other then my floppy and combodrive in the face. I've got Creative Platinium controller that will fill a slot. The Hardcano12, and possibly another 5.25 bay cooler for the HD if the Hardcano12 is not an HDD cooler.

    Thanks for any info.

    Doh!!!

You'd think they wouldn't list it under the cooling sections of NewEgg and ZipZoomFly. Here's the actual page at NewEgg for the Hardcano 12. I suppose I should know better, but at first glance and going by the name, one would think it's a cooler and a temp monitor.

I'm still going to install it, I'm just going to get a black 3 fan 5.25 "face" cooler. Till the Hardcano 14's become available.

Thanks Custom for confirming my suspicions.

What happened was, I was looking at the newer CoolerMaster HDDCoolers which are different then the face-only mounted traditional coolers, or "clameshell" coolers.

I didn't exactly like the style of the CoolerMasters, so I went searching around. The Hardcano 14 wasn't available, and it is an enclosure style cooler. I went the next model down and found it at NewEgg and ZZF. Clicked on it, and the rest is history.

There are several coolers that look like this way, and those were the ones I was looking at.

TBH mate you don't need something like that to cool a drive, there not that good, you would be better fitting a intake fan on the front to draw air past your drives,

The other option would be to add a couple of fans to the drive bays to move the air around it.

Your correct, the cooling of the Hardcanos and Coolmasters isn't very impressive, they only lower HDD temps by a few degrees. But talking to Western Digital, the Raptors don't necessarily need to be "cooled". They just need to be kept from overheating. Their operating temperture is just fine, you just don't want to exceed it under extreme conditions. But the do recommed additional cooling because the added rpms.

I'm building with a Thermaltake Armour. It's a big case, and with only a combodrive, floppy, and Creative X-fi Platinum controller, I thought a drivebay mounted HDD with cooler would help fill out the front. Make it looks less "empty".

That's how my search for an HDD cooler started. Purely from an estetics standpoint. It's my fault for not thoroughly checking out the purchase. But now I still need cooling.

I'm going to grab a standard drivebay fan unit (which actually cool much better). They come in black and are cheap enough ($10.00 USA). I still have plenty of bays left too.

i was going to recomend one of them, there very good, if you mod the fans (IE put better ones or ones with LED's in there) it looks really cool, and makes your computer run alot cooler also, there best to put right at the top so the cool air passes all over the system.

Ya know that's not a bad idea at all. I was looking at that Hardcano 14, for it's minimal cooling, but mostly for its style for the case. Even one blue L.E.D in the standard cooler would probably do the trick. I'm not looking to light up the front of the case, just accent it with some color.

You know, I've built several gaming machines before this one. Being a hard core gamer for more years then most of you could imagine. But they were all in tan boxes. While I'm no modder like you guys, I still want something unique this time, even if it's only manufactured parts.

I never realized how much consideration and desicions would have to be made, even when deciding on parts that are available to anyone. Makes me appreciate what you guys do.

    He's right you know.
This has made my drives run a lot cooler.
