    Question Administrator access???

    Hey guys,

I'm sure this is simple to many of you, but I lack the knowledge.

Here at work, an employee left.
So I'm cleaning-up her computer, yet, I don't know the password for the administrator for that computer.

And... in usual IT-insanity... nobody knows the password.

    Help?
    Ideas?

    How can I reset it?

I need to clean it... and there's this crappy program that I'm just like "WTF".

    It's a "Macrogaming SweetIM 2.0".
    I. Don't. Even. Want. To. Know.

    Thanks a ton guys!

i know there are a few linux .iso's out there that you boot off and it cracks all the passwords, try a bit of gooleing.
Also, can't you just boot into safe mode and theres no password for admin.?

the name for the boot CD that rescues passwords is OPHcrack.
(I've used it once or twice.)

calcumc: maybe that's the administrator password he's looking for. The one in the safe mode 'Administrator' account.

UBCD4Win has a tool on it. 3rd one down on the menu. It will allow you to 'inject' a new admin account into the local machine.

    Matter of fact...
    http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm

Burn it, boot it, and use it. Takes 20 min from start to finish.

I use the non-windows version for a lot of things. So much in fact I have just burned another one because the last one was developing errors.

    Great suggestion nil8!

The non-windows version isn't nearly as user friendly for those of us who tread mostly in MS, which is most of us.

I will agree that UBCD & UBCD4Win are incredibly useful tech tools.

Thank you. Oh, the fruit tart was excellent!

    I would use http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Chntpw_for_Dos advice

cgsecurity is a great web page and their program "TestDisk" is one you MUST have on hand... (It can rebuild removed and removed+over-formated partitions!)

edit: for those who don't see the link at the bottom: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
is the one recommended for 2k & XP from them.
