    Default Shrinking Video?

When I make a video on my Panasonic camera and save it to my computer, it is saved as a .mov file. The files are big! Even a 30 second file is over 40MB. Is there a way/program that will let me save it as a .wmv or .mpeg or something not as HUGE? Kind of like saving a .bmp as a .jpg and it shrinks....

    On linux, I type this:
    ffmpeg really_big.mov not_so_big.avi

ffmpeg reads from/converts to just about any format you can think of. It's a text based program that functions as the back end for many gui video format converters.

If you have winXP, you can use the included MovieMaker app to shrinkydink those .movs right up. just drag and drop the file into MM and output as a .wmv.

Or you could use, mediacoder does transcoding to and from just about anything (even Real video) and is opensource. It does do batch processing as well, which is handy if you have a lot of things to transcode. I use it all the time for transcoding video for my Creative ZEN, and it's remarkably good (quality wise of output) and fast (even on a p4).

Try using 'Super' from eRightsoft, it's a free program and can convert nearly all types of video files into ... all types of video files. Also the size (pixels that is) is adjustable, as is the quality of both video and audio.
The website might look a bit weird, but the program runs well and has always done the job for me.
