I had the privilege to ask him some questions about his "Frankenstripe" mod to find out some more about what is the Frankenstripe.

For the record, Ed's Frankenstrat cost roughly $180 USD--neck and body were 'seconds' (meaning that there were some imperfections), the humbucker pickup was salvaged out of a Gibson, and the bridge was salvaged out of a fender. In many ways, whether we realize it or not, we all owe our modding/DIY roots to Eddie Van Halen. He was not the first to do it, but he sure made it popular!
