Monitor mounted in case

I posted a few months ago with a similar plan but I just wanted to see what everyone thought again.

I bought the case I will be using.
Its the coolmaster cm 690.
And I plan on mounting a 15" HP LCD monitor in the side of it, similar to defyant's Hpres-server
The difference between mine and his is that it will stick an 1" out of the case and will be surrounded on all sides by plexiglass. The reason it will stick out an extra inch or so is because I want it to be mounted on the side of the motherboard tray. There will be about .5" between the thickest part of the monitor and motherboard tray. On the other side there will be a window. I have told my idea to a few other people and a couple of them told me to be careful about the extra heat coming from the LCD. Personally, I don't think the LCD produces enough heat to worry about it but I would rather be safe than sorry. I also can't afford liquid cooling but I will have at least 5 fans in the case when it all is finished.
I was just wondering what you guys thought about this. Whether I should go ahead as planned but just monitor temps, or switch the monitor to the other side, or nix the whole monitor thing all together, or something else.

well, you're at a modding forum, so I won't say it is not possible. You should probably give thought to the extra heat produced by the monitor, but if you put your fans in the right spot I don't think it would be a problem at all.

Just make sure you put something in there to try and reduce the heat, and test it before finalizeing it. If you can't touch the surface it is too hot

I think it'll be fine. LCD Monitors don't throw that much heat. They use cathodes to light up. One thing you could do to make sure air is circulating is take a PCI slot fan and mount it on it's side by the motherboard tray. That way air is always flowing over the monitor. Or, if you're really feeling adventureous, you could take the cathodes out, and string up a bunch of white LED's to replace them.

I also don't think you'll have a problem with overheating. What I would recommend is making vents in the plexiglass you build the frame in, just like are found on the actual LCD monitors. That should allow enough heat dissipation that you won't have a problem.

Thanks guys for all the advice and suggestions.
I think I'm going to go ahead with my original plans and put the monitor on the motherboard side.

I may put two fans below the monitor and then vent holes above it to help with the heat. That will probably only happen if there are temp problems though.
