    Default Problems with new processor

I just got my brand-spanking new Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 and installed it today. I had to update my BIOS for my ASUS P5W-DH so that it was compatible with the new processor. Theres two problems: first, I don't think the new BIOS is stable (esp. since it is a Beta). Second, the processor has a default 9x multiplier and I can't get my RAM at the right frequency without problems (my C2D E6700 had a default multiplier of 10). I tried raising the multiplier but it said it won't go above 9.
First, does anyone know how to get the multiplier up to 10?
Second, does anyone know of any other fixes?

    Thanks,
    Indybird

The multiplier won't go higher than 9. Only the QX6700 has an unlocked multiplier that will go higher than default. It's how the processor is built.

Why use beta BIOS, isn't there a stable release that supports your CPU? If there is, download that.

Also, you should be able to set the multiplier for the RAM. That will bring it back to stock.

First, where do I find the multiplier for the RAM?
Second, the Beta BIOS is sadly the only one that supports it.

The multiplier refers to the clock speed. Your processor runs at 2997MHz (333x9).

What speed is your ram running currently?

Its DDR2 800 RAM, but it only gives me the option to set the RAM to 667, 845 and something else weird. It ran stable w/ the proc at 2.7GHz and the RAM at 800. What should I do if I want to run the RAM at 800 and the proc at it's default speed (3GHz)?

EDIT: I forgot to say: my E6700 had a default 10x multiplier, why does this one only have a 9x? Does it have anything to do with the much higher FSB?

It's because of the higher FSB. It's rated for 3GHz (it's actually 2.997GHz but intel rounds up).

I'm not familiar with your motherboard, but I'll look into it. It sounds very strange.

Since I just installed the processor and am "breaking in" the Arctic Silver 5, I'm not going to Overclock the processor. Right now its like this:
    Processor: 3GHz
    FSB: 1333MHz
    RAM: DDR2 889
    RAM Voltage: 2.1V

Its running stable like that, but once I overclock I'm planning to get it like this:
    Processor: 3.6GHz
    FSB: 1333MHz
    RAM: DDR2 900
    RAM Voltage 2.15~2.2.

    If I get new RAM it'll be some DDR2 1066 OC'd to DDR2 1200:
    Processor 3.6GHz
    FSB: 1333MHz
    RAM: DDR2 1200

So, I'm OK for now but thanks for the help...

wouldn't you have to bump up the fsb to OC?

    Yes, he would.

He would have the FSB running at 400MHz (quad-pumped - 1600MHz) to achieve 3.6GHz with his processor.

If he has 1:1 with the FSB and RAM then his ram would be running at 400MHz (800MHz effective)

EDIT: Also overclock now, not later. Helps with setting in the AS5.

Yep, heat is good for it. Run a program like Prime95 too. The more the burn-in, the better.
