ya i wouldn't do it to a new proc i got which is why i did it on this old one. i might try it on a old P4 1.6ghz and see what happens. if it works with that i will probably do it with what proc i get. my only real problem with doing it is voiding the warranty but i will deffently do it to my heatsinks.

yes i feel sorry for that E6700 they screwed up by de-headspreading it.

update, sorta. i lapped my celeron!

here are the pictures! i haven't had it long enough to see any results but i figured i show you guys.

i used bing's ketchup idea but used blue printer ink instead.

    Before.

i'm not sure what there called but they have to do with the voltage regulation for the cpu. they are black squares with "R50" on them. i saw on a thermal shot on this site they get to 135C, i touched mine and it started to hurt so i decided to make heatsinks. how safe/smart is this? i think the two in the middle are going to lift a little will that hurt it? i think they will still help suck some heat. i used some AS5 to help stick them and there also held in place with a elastic band around two capacitors, there isn't a huge amount of stress on the cap's so will it be fine?

i've since taken the elastic band off and mixed in a bit of super glue and model cement and its sticking so far.

I don't see it hurting the capacitors since they can usually handle a bit of abuse (being bent around a couple times)

    So what were the results?

those big blocks are either inductors or resistors. the r thing on them tells me they are resistors, but I can see some coils on the inside in my mobo's case.
I wouldn't put a heatsink on one of those, only on transistors. Heat goes away if you apply some airflow on that spot. I use a 120mm fan when overclocking + load 100% (that's when they get too hot to touch), in normal use they are just warm. They need just airflow, as they are more ceramic in nature, not very good at conducting heat.

i wasn't worried about putting stress on them either but i was told it the heat might melt the elastic band, i doubt it would but it might dry out faster. plus it looks tacky with that there.

i got rid of the elastic band and mixed in a bit of model cement with the AS5 and its held so far.

there inductors dgrmkrp and i run it oc'd all the time. i probably don't need them but they will add a bit more life to them and the capacitors around them. i also added a fan as i noticed there is a 3 pin plugin.

overall i've dropped temps 3*C or more degrees during load. its not a whole bunch but i already voided the warranty by upping the voltage and it only took 15 minutes to lap it.

    here are some new photo's

just a question, would lapping work on amd x2 processors? im sure it will, but i have only seen intels being used.

If it has a integrated heat spreader, then you can lap it.

yup like crenn said as long as it has the ihs. i'm not 100%, but pretty sure there is copper under there.
