I would like to know if there is any real good reason to still install a floppy drive?
    Nope.

    Its called a Flash Drive.

Pocket sized and a gazillion times bigger than a floppy. Just about the same price too.
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

which AFAIK can only be done from a floppy, and not an external one.

However, for the limited number of times you would actually do this, it's as well to just hook it up when you need it.

I have a floppy installed in 1 out of my 4 systems. It's my Dell 1.3gig celeron that I'm using as my server (server 2k3). I do have several floppies lying around just in case, but it's been about 3 years since I've used one for anything constructive.

Yeah, theres not really a practical everyday use for them anymore. If you ever need one, just hook up an old one until your done with it. No biggie.

I havent used one in 5 years, and my current PC doesnt have one. Neither will my next rig. I do have an old one sitting in a drawer just in case.

I use them for 2 reasons.

    1. To install my disks of DOS 6.22

    2. To install Windows 3.1

Oh wait it isnt 1992 any more. (Still have the disks though...would rather use DOS and WIN 3.1 than Vista any day)

yeah floppies are outdated and useless (says the guy with a 250meg tape drive)
