    Default AMD OEM Heatsink compatible?`

    Hey all,
I tried to google this question but all I could find is online stores selling HSFs. I have my stock HSF that came with my AMD 64 socket 939. My wife's computer's CPU is getting too hot and I think it is the HSF on her puter. She has an AMD 64 socket 754. Would mike HSF be compatible with her mobo/chip?? I am trying to not have to go out and actually BUY another HSF.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

i doubt it will fit, but you can give it a try. i've never used any of the two socket types but i know when you buy a heatsink or a waterblock, they give you different mounting clips or adapters for different sockets. try it, if it doesn't work, try to put a bigger fan on her stock cooler with a home-made adapter you can also check the airflow in the computer since it is a big factor (circulating hot air around will not give you good temps no matter how good hs you have).

It will cool the chip just fine, so thats one answer out of the way, just check if the mounting mechanism is the same, if it is the heatsink shoudl be just fine

well, the mounting what what I wasn't sure about. I wanted to make sure that the 939 hsf was compatible with her mobo. was hoping to find out before we took apart her computer. It if a sff case and I didn't want to have to dismantle it all only to find out that the hsf was not compatible.

If its an SFF case, make sure it fits, most SFF systems have their own heatsinks

it's an antec aria. it doesn't have it's own HSF. But I am pretty sure the one from my cp is short enough to fit.

its a micro atx based SFF. but I digress. I guess I will try to keep researching.

If anybody knows the answer, please be sure to post.

    Thanks
