    Default How To: Posting Pictures

It seems that every week, I tell like 5 people how to post pictures in their replies and threads here on TBCS. So, I figured I'd write up a quick tutorial.

First, take your picture and resize it. Some online hosts do it for you, but I always like to resize my pictures anyways, as I upload them to my own site. I use a great program called FastStone Image Viewer to resize my pictures. It's a free program available from http://www.faststone.org.

    Using FastStone To Resize Pictures

First, open up faststone and browse to the file that you want to resize. Select it and then select Tools - Convert Selected.

Next, select your output format, folder, etc. Click Advanced Options.

Select what output size you would like. Then click "Ok" then click "Start". The program will then resize your pictures for you.

    Uploading Your Pictures

Next, upload your pictures to an online image host such as Imageshack, Photobucket, Lotech, etc.

    Posting Your Pictures

Now, posting your pictures is simple.

1.) Find the URL of your image that you have just uploaded. Many sites will give it to you, but if they don't, most browsers have a simple feature to let you find out. Simply right click on your picture and select "Copy Image URL".
2.) Next, go to TBCS and click the image button in the message box. That image looks like this:

3.) Now, paste the image URL into the box, hit ok, and you're done!

One thing you should add is if you click Settings next to Output Format and move the slider bar to 50%-60%. This can knock a huge amount from the original file size with a very small drop in overall quality. Useful for those of us who have to download the pictures, but also for useful for those of us who have to pay bandwidth bills

One quick thing to mention; if you're using another provider, like Flickr, they have a rule that you must link back externally linked images. So if you use
    Code:
    [ IMG]http://flickr...[/IMG]
    you must enclose it in
    Code:
    [ URL="http://flickr.url.here"]...[/URL]
    -- eg:
    Code:
    [ URL="http://flickr.url.here"][ IMG]http://flickr.image.here.jpg[/IMG][/URL]
This will give you a clickable image back to the Flickr page and you still get your photo in. If you want to use the icons, click the URL icon first, enter the address, then click the image icon, enter the address, then as we say in Canada: et voila!
