    Default Respectable Laptop Manufacturers.

Hello. I wasn't really sure were to ask this so i thought i would ask here. If this is in the wrong place please tell me and I will lock this and repost it to the appropriate forum.

Anyway. I'm starting college in August so I plan on getting a job for the next seven months and i could really use a nice new laptop (I'm running and old 600 MHz ibook). Since I have seven months to save I will probably be looking in the $1,000 - $2,500 range. I don't want to hear about specific laptops but rather I just want to know what are some good manufacturers that I should look in to?

I already know that a Mac is in the line up for sure, and is probably what I'm going to purchase, but I'm trying to be as fair and unbiased as possible and figured I would look in to some other companies to see what is out there.

Summary: Can you name some good laptop manufacturers?

Also: If you have any first hand experiences (good or bad) feel free to add them in.

    Thank you for your time.

Got a Sony Vaio for school two years ago. Still works fine is top notch while it may have been a little more expensive then laptops of its power it hasn't failed me yet. The battery in it the original one and it still runs as strong as when I got it. And I was using this thing every day at school.

    Macbooks are pretty cool to.

I'm using an Acer Travelmate. This is in fact my second Acer, didn't really have problems with them. Also my sister has an Acer, as did my roommate and a friend of mine. I think none of them ever had a problem with them.
Acer makes nice laptops (travelmate series especially) but Their service is a bit less... I have heard.

Also my roommate has two IBMs which are nice laptops too, very durable but probably a bit more expensive too.

I have an IBM Thinkpad which i got for my birthday two years ago. The only problem with it is it's battery. For me the battery doesn't last long at all. I think it's just me because after 5min or so on battery it jumps down to 2% and shuts down. Might not have the same problem with other Thinkpads but just giving you a heads up =]

I'm not sure about that article...you could equally say that All laptop manufacturers just user either AMD or Pentium processors, both of which are avaliable publicly. They just buy the shells and kit them out, which is exactly what i expected of them. Why would they bother wasting money buying a factory when someone else can make them? Sony VIAO shells are always a bit crap in my opinion, so i'm not surprised to read that they make their own.

I welcome your opinions on this...

Thanks for all of the input guys, Ill look in to all of those companies, as time permits, and see what I can find. I'm hoping to get something fairly large (in terms of screen size) yet still somewhat thin and lite.

    Thank you everyone.

anymore input from anyone else is still welcome.
