    Default linux 3d cad software

anybody know of 3d-capable cad software for linux (specifically ubuntu...dapper at the moment, but might upgrade soon)?
i've seen a couple websites that offer 2d, but i'd like something similar to google sketchup, which, unfortunately, doesn't seem to have a linux version available.

i'll give it a shot tonight, thanks

    edit:

silly debian user thinking that ubuntu can use debian repositories

    edit again:
    sudo aptitude purge tzdata
    yay.
got blender installed, can play with it tonight

Blender is very fun. I have it right now (Edgy and Windows) and I'm really liking it. Read the tutorials on deviantART, as they really helped me learn it.

yeah, i started it up last night, and uh...it ran fine. i just stared at the interface for a bit and realized that i'm going to have to bump the screen res on the linux box down a bit. so much for being able to read small print from far away :p
there's a wikibook that i'm gonna look through as well:
    http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
it seemed to be pretty damn all-inclusive

all i *really* want to do is work on case and component dimensions - i think this is going to be horribly overkill but with a raytracer, i'll get to see how it'll be shadowed inside! silly :p

Yeah, I read the Noob to Pro too (not all of it) and it was very helpful as well.

Synergy is a mechanical CAD system with emphasis on CAM for driving CNC machines.

We have the full system available for download for Linux at:

    http://www.webersys.com/linuxsynergy.htm

The complete download is about 38 Mb.

    We have 8 formats built/tested:

RPM format for Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike)
RPM format for Mandrake Linux release 9.2 (FiveStar) for i586
RPM format for Mandrake Linux release 10.0 (Community) for i586
    RPM format for SuSE 9.0
    RPM format for Novell 9.0
    RPM format for Slackware 10.0
    DEB format for Debian 3.1
    gzipped tar file

The gzip format requires a few command lines to unpack.
The RPM format makes for easier installation but is sensitive to minor library
differences and can refuse to install.

You are free to use the CAD portion of Synergy for an unlimited time.
The CAM and Solid Modeling portions will require an access code.
You can get a free 30 day trial access code by sending the ID and version number
that appears in the dialog box that appears when you access those areas of the system.
    Or,
You can force Synergy to display the information by typing:
    \Xaccess (Enter)
    in the input line.

i'm not sure if i should feel honored or what that somebody created an account solely to plug their software

also, if you even bother reading, if you make available an apt source for ubuntu, i might try it. as it is, i don't feel like futzing around with building from source

The .deb package will work with minimal headaches...

Edit: Or use Alien and the .rpm package.
