Question Computer Lock for college - X-discovery

    Hey,

I am new to this forum and need some help.

I recently bought a computer with the Aspire X-Discovery case. I am not going to college and want to buy one of the PC Locks that prevent your computer from being stolen.

Does anyone have any suggestions on computer locks? Especially ones that will work with a case like this.

I don't know if I can help, but I can try.

It looks like the case you have doesn't have any locks of it's own. Like there isn't a lock from preventing someone to open the side panel. The locks that I am seeing (after a quick search) use the PCI slot or the video port as an anchor. But the problem is that people could just open your PC and take all the components inside and you will be left with a motherboard tray (maybe the case too if you are lucky).

I wish I could be more helpful because all I did was state the cons.

Well... since this is a modding forum that you came to. You could always install your own lock in the side panel. Then you would add the PCI slot lock and you should be set.

you can buy special nut sets which require a special tool to get them open - i cant remember off the top of my head who makes them, but they're similar to locking wheel nuts on a car - if you dont have the tool, it makes getting into the case a lot harder...

I am looking more for something that will keep my case connected to my table so the actualy computer can't just be picked up and stolen. They have wires that do it, but most of them need to hook into something.

What do you think about this? Seems like it uses adhesives of some sort:

do you care about your table? if you dont drill 4 holes in the bottom of your case (if its a tower) and four in the same relitive position to its usual location on the desk. thread some guy wire through and crimp it on the other side.

this way, the only way of stealin the pc is to

    a.) steal the table

    b.) bring bolt cutters along.

the thing you suggested would work unless the guy brings a crew (unlikely) to haul it all off as one peice.

    but your suggestion should work.

Haha... Dell calls them "attractive". I only had to secure a laptop in college so it was much easier.

If you are moving into on-campus living and it is prefurnished, the holes in the table is a bad idea unless you want to pay for the table. Table will probably be overpriced too.

I like the sound of special nuts that screw into your PC. After you get those, you should get one of those PCI slot locks. One end is connected to an empty PCI slot and the other is tied or connected in some way around a table.

Here's a link to those security screws. The other type of security you seem to be talkin about are things like kensington locks. You can loop one end around something like a table leg and the other end attaches to the computer with a bracket or, in the case of this item it simply attaches all of your puter bits together - I personally wouldnt fancy tryin to carry off a PC, Screen and printer all at the same time....

That's the case I'm using for my Super Bee mod. I saw those locks that lock the case panel shut, but you want one that locks it down to the desk?

You could drill holes through the sides of the case, then wire it securely to your desk, but wrap the wires around the desk top, instead of drilling holes. Now this is ugly.

Is the central heating water carried, in that case, wire (or chain) the computer to the radiator.

And the suggestion have been made, but mod it secure. Build a safe and put your comp in that.
