Thread: PCI Express Extension Cable?

  1. #1

    Default PCI Express Extension Cable?

Is there such a thing as a PCI Express extension cable? I want to build a case and have the components lay flat side-by-side. Is this possible? If so, where can I get the cable?

Not up on this anymore but won't that add a timing delay? I know that the pci express bus is very timing dependent and even a short riser card causes problems with high end graphics cards (tried to put an ATI firegl card into a 1u system and had many problems, some but not all heat related and ended up giving up).

Even if that were the case, you could still adjust the timing's and voltages in the BIOS and sort it out. Allthough that would take some expertice. On the other hand, they've probly thought of that when making the extentions.

Wow I always wondered if those existed. Always like I wondered if there is chocolate topping for popcorn.

Hmm this means you could fit a fat graphics card in one of those ity bity media center PC's (cogs in brain spining) cuting would be required.

I guess if you aligned the cards right with the cables this would work for SLI?

I have a similar problem. I have a Dell Dimension E521. The stupid thing is that the PCI express slot is configured in a spot that is too high for the 2 port 8800 gts that i am trying to install. That and the video card runs into the Heatsink for the Processor. So I need to get something that will either drop the PCI express slot DOWN one slot or will let me move it to a different area, ie with a cable. Is there such a thing as a PCI express LOWERER? if thats a word. A riser is kinda the opposite of what i need. THX
