    Default how difficult...

how difficult would it be to screw a piece of oak to a stud in my wall then put the motherboard on there? Would everything stay up there?

providing you used raw plugs to hold it up there, and the screws used on your mobo have a goodenough grip to hold it,

Yes, i can't see why not,

You would probably want to screw it to multiple studs if possible. Honestly the best bet for anything like this is the premade closet racks. It's cheap, fast and has instructions.

    welcome to the board.

    Your idea should work fine
just countersink the screw heads so they don't short out the M/B and mount some stand-offs on the aok and it will be fine.

put a nice finsih on things and post a picture.
    it could look really cool.
