That's about it, although at one time Fifth Element was my top. I can't stand most movies because you have to play dumb to believe the plot. It's been many years since I was actually "entertained" by a movie. I think the last one I really enjoyed was "The Station Agent". It's funny that my brother-in-law owns a half dozen multi-screen theaters and he gives us a yearly pass to get in free. I have not used my pass in almost 5 years (or more). I absolutely hate paying for a movie only to have to sit through 15 minutes of commercials. I just hate the whole experience now.
"...Dumb all over, A little ugly on the side... "...Frank Zappa...
It's pretty hard for me to come up with one, and if I get more than one then it turns into about fifty. So, I can maybe break it down into categories or themes that I like and name some movies in each.
But . . . if we are going to choose just one, I'll say Operation Condor. It stars Jackie Chan before he spoke English very well, so he dubs it in his own voice, which is funny. The fight scenes are top notch and really comical, especially in the wind tunnel. The story is comically bad in a good way as well as the acting, and the writing is meant to be funny (and is) as well.
Now for the list and some categories.
I like low budget films, or films that I think could be made today for little money even if they were high budget at the time. I think they appeal to me because they show the potential of something that I could do myself if I wanted. That list includes:
Moon
Special
Cube
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
Primer
I also like high budget, visually exciting movies with stunts and special effects and visual effects. If the story is crap, however, then they're no good. Here's that list:
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Alien trilogy (not #4)
Avengers series (ongoing)
Batman Begins series (ongoing)
Pirates of the Caribbean series (#1 and 4 are the best)
Harry Potter anthology
Jurassic Park
Serenity
Inception
And I guess I'll end with dark movies. This includes post-apocalyptic movies but also any movie without a happy ending. Here's that list:
Fight Club
Children of Men
District 9
Zombieland
I'll stop for now, but there are whole other categories I haven't even touched yet.
My favorite movie is Fight Club.
Then runners up are Tron Legacy,Scott pilgrim, Donnie Darko, The Italian Job, And Waynes World
Will
