    Default Painting plastic Ipod Case.

The case for my ipod is starting to show major signs of wear and tear so I was thinking about painting it. I don't know anything about painting though and I've never had much luck with it.

Does anyone have any info or know where i could get info on getting started with something like this? Is there any sort of Rattle Can paint that would hold up to being touched and rubbed all the time?

    Thanks for any input.

for rattle can paint, i'd suggest krylon fusion.

but in reality, i would think a dye would work better.

I thought about dye. I've used it in the past with great results. Ihad to use the stove top to heat it though and wasn't sure if I wanted to go through that for an iPad case.

i was thinking more along the lines of vinyl dye for car seats and plastic interior bits. it sprays on like spray paint.

from watching the saturday morning car shows, it looks like you just spray it on like regular spray paint.

I use it on the dashboard of a truck a few years back. It works great. Goes on just like spray paint and once its dry you can't scrape it off. It held up for the 3 years I drove the truck and still looked fine.

Cool, I think im gonna give this stuff a shot. Could I likely pick some up at the auto parts store?

Also, is it possible to mask sections off to create patterns or would the stuff seep through the plastic and get under the masking?

I was thinking about doing stripes if i can find two colors I like but wasn't sure how easy it would be.

i'm pretty sure you can get it at your local autoparts store.

i don't know about bleeding under the tape. i'd try it out on a scrap piece of plastic first.

i also don't know how well it covers other colors of dye. might want to test that too.
