If at first you don't succeed, your doing about average.
I used this paint once to make a greek style column for decoration.
I think you will be disapointed. The final effect isn't really a stone look. The paint creates a rough texture like a concrete sidewalk but the paint speckles become too uniform over a large area (like the side of a case) and that adds to the concrete look rather than stone.
you might find a better product by googling "faux marble painting kit"
Depending on what really want you might have better luck using drybrush and ink washes to make the case look old. There are also some iron based primers you can get from model train hoddy shops which can will actually rust.
These two mods are have real nice industrial/antuque/retro look.

Black Mesa HL2. This is a long forum thread (64 pages) most of it is attaboy posts. Just skim to the pictures or look for "piloux" as the poster - its awsome
It all depends on the kind of look you are going for.
You can buy this stuff at craft stores that can make it look like it's rusted. I forget what it's called but most craft stores sell it.
I used the granite paint and thought it turned out ok, i'm trying to get that black rain stains on granite like you'd see on old tombstone in a graveard. Below is a pic of the case after paint.

Well for that, why not just use an actual wood stain? Start with a lighter colored stain to see if it looks good and if you want it darker, use a darker stain. For that effect I'd say just drip it on.
Tried wood stain, just doesn't take for some reason, wipes right off with no effect.
