    Default Thinking about new headphones

I've looked at the Steel Series 7H models and the Corsair HS1's. I don't need the mic, so it's performance is not a factor. What are your opinions on the best headphones for sound quality during gaming?

Well, they aren't surround, but they are totally awesome and still for sale since I want to try and make a pair of my own. Here's my review of GK Music Ultraphones. And here's where you can see that they are for sale.

Currently for gaming (since I use a mic) I'm using the Logitech G35 Surround Headset. They are nice because they are USB interface and surround sound. This means you don't have to go unplug your speakers from the 1/8th jack or any silly thing like that. The sad thing is that the surround sound is only simulated. In reality it's only stereo, so a similar effect could be had out of many headphones. They are kinda expensive, and it took a little bit before they were comfortable, but I like them. They also have a new wireless version, but I haven't read any reviews yet so I can't confidently recommend them. I assume that they are more or less the same as the wired version but wireless.

+1 for the Logitech G35 Headphones. Also +1 for not knowing whether the wireless ones are any good or not. I'd assume so, though. Otherwise, I usually stick with Sennheiser or Plantronics. I sort of like Skull Candy, but only as a cheap brand. And I like Shure, but they are ridiculously expensive. At least they're not Ultimate Ears expensive. lol

Not sure what your budget is but Audio Technica ATH-AD700 are a great pair of headphones for both music and gaming. Oddly they've actually gone up in price since I bought mine back in June for $80, but even for $120 I would recommend them. They are open ear so depending how loud your sound is people around you may hear what youre hearing. I did a lot of research before purchasing and the AD700 seen to be one some of the best headphones you can get for the price that provide quality sound in both gaming and music.

Audiphile or not, Head-Fi is a great forum if you want to do some research.

Btw, here is a nice review on the Corsair HS1 They seem to be a popular headset for the price-point.

Alright, Corsair wins if only just for the sheer effort they put into everything they do. That company deserves my money as far as I can tell, whether they, technically speaking, have the best headphones or not, which it looks like they pretty much do.

Edit: And they're currently on sale on Amazon. Nice!

I like my HS1's but I'm going to need to RMA the set I have after only 2 months of use. Its the standard headphone cord issue where if its not positioned just right it crackles or the sound cuts out. Weird bit is that it just started hapening one day, normaly something like this happens after it gets dropped or dangled, but no such thing happened.

My HS1's were great, till I played my game. I could not change my volume while in-game! So, I exchanged them for the HS1A's instead.
