Thread: Slot Load Drive

    Default Slot Load Drive

I have an idea for a new build that I would like to get started on soon. I need a slot load drive for it but I can only find them in slim drives.

Does anyone know of a full size 5.25" slot load drive? Or an adapter that would fit the slimline in the 5.25" without much modification (If possible).

    Here is an IDE adapter.

They also make them for newer sata drives.

Here is a 5.25 converter for 2 laptop drives

I remember seeing a 5.25 slot load drive once but as i recall it was CD-Rom only. However I could be wrong

IF you can find them, and it's a HUGE if, Pioneer made some slot load DVD ROM drives many MANY moons ago. The only company (I think) which has made anything 5.25 and slot based in recent years was Plextor and they were expensive by normal DVDRW standards.... The most recent reference to them I can find is about 2005 though so you may be stuck with a Laptop drive (much more widely available) and it isn't hard to get them to work in a desktop with a little fiddling and extra hardware....

I figured if I did find a 5.25 slot load is would be cd only (or maybe dvd) but what is a new computer without a dvd burner. The dual slim into 5.25 looks about like what I want. It will be stealthed beind the front panel with only a slot cut for the dvd.

I do believe that was the same drive Zap Wizard used in some mods.

US eBay has some of the drives as well.

Supermicro used to have the adapters to mount a slimline dvd in a 5.15" bay.

I don't see it on their site so I will send an email to our rep to see if they still stock it or not.

I just had a customer back out on a system that they ordered. I bought all of the parts, assembled, and finished everything and then they backed out. I have the deposit but I'm still out everything else and can't seem to sell it locally. May end up parting it out.

In other words until I sell this one I am strapped for cash in the modding budget.

We should petetion drive mfg's to come out with new slot load drives. They are the bee's knees and would go over well with the modding community.
