Thread: What should i buy?

    Default What should i buy?

Ok, so i'm just starting to get into this whole "modding" thing and i barely have any of my own tools. What i really need help with is what to buy to cut metal like the cover on a PC to make my own window on the side. I have no idea what to buy and i'm on pretty tight budget. What kind of cheap cutting tools should i get? I live like right next to a home-depot too so any links from their site would be great.

Just to show how new i am to this... this is basically the only thing i've done which was last night.

    After-

a dremel, jig saw, and a rivet gun are my essentials.

A good screwdriver, a pair of safety goggles, some sandpaper and a file or two with a handle.

Welcome aboard and have fun with your mod.
I like the texture you have going. It looks like rip-stop nylon fabric.

As for tools: the above is a good start. There are several "what should I buy?" threads and they have lots of good ideas. Think of buying tools as starting a collection.

Remember you don't need to buy new. Check out garage sales, estate sales and second hand stores.

One of my first tools, although expensive was an air compressor. You can get by without one, but if you do have one it opens the door to many possibilities-air tools, custom painting, and it's good to just have compressed air to clean stuff with. You don't have to get a big shop compressor-you can get one of the small, portable jobs like roofers use for around 100.00 or less.

nice dremel...u can only cut the metal if u buy reinforced cutting discs...the stone ones will shatter...and if u wanna work with plexiglass a.k.a. acrylic a router is really handy for that and many other materials.
