Default Xbox 360 DVD Drive Issues.

The DVD Drive in my Xbox 360 (Elite) won't open. When the button is pressed it does a sort of slight jerk as if it wants to open, but then doesn't. I also tried opening it via the homescreen option but no go there either.

So what are my options at this point? Perhaps fix the drive itself? Purchase a new drive? Etc.

take off the faceplate and there should be a hole that you press with a paperclip/something small enough to fit in the hole and it will manually eject the drive.

    EDIT: I recommend the paperclip

Hmmm no paper clips in sight of course but are usually littered everywhere. This is why I don't like cleaning my house. lol

Maybe if I just... stare intensely... at it... for awhile...

    ...

I command you to open dammit!! lol

Anyone want to FedEx me a paperclip? :p

Paperclip as mentioned above will work.

Sounds like you just need to clean it up a bit. I had one that just needed some lube on one of the pulleys.

Well I got it opened. It seems to like working only when on it's side. However regardless of what game disc I use, it doesn't recognize that anythings there. Options at this point?

I'm going to assume the lens module isn't working correctly for an unknown reason. I wonder if that can be repaired?

You can send it in to Microsoft to have them fix it if the seal hasn't been broken.

Otherwise, you can get a new drive off ebay or similar. Just get the same model drive. You either then have to extract the drive key off the existing drive and flash it onto the new drive, or if the circuit board on the existing drive is in proper order, swap the circuit board off the old drive and onto the new one.

The dvd drive key must match the existing one, otherwise your 360 will not read any games. There are plenty of guides around for both of these processes in the usual places.

    Laser lens cleaner.
Our CODMWII 360 had reading problems. Popped the cleaner in. No problems.
Two years. They were great. Let's make the next ones even better!

the laser in the dvd drives can be tweaked but your gunna need a multimeter to do so... there r 2 pots on the laser PCB... u can find a tut as to which one to tweak.. but i would suggest just sending it in if your still in warranty... otherwise a pot tweak and a lil grease revives a 360 dvd drive (pot tweak for lasers) (grease for drive eject.... altho usually its the motor burning out)
