Finally got a new cell phone.

I just ordered my new phone, and yes I did go Android! I switched to sprint, solely for their unlimited plan, and decided to go with the free Sanyo Zio by Kyocera. It runs Android 2.1 but can be upgraded to 2.2. After having used an old school razer for over a year, I am very very excited to get this new phone!

So what android apps are must haves?

first and foremost recommendation is root by unr3voked its painless and reversible and that opens you up to anything you want to run IMO

Well it will be here in 2-5 days. Also, from reading on the android forums, it looks like the only root app that's known to work is the Ultimate Android Root app.

-Camera Zoom FX (unlocks more goodies than the standard camera)
-Sound Hound (awesome app for when you need to know that awesome song on the radio)
-MicDroid (auto-tune app, fun to play with)

K-9 mail, for email, 3g watchdog to keep track of data transfer (even "unlimited" plans tend to have a "Fair use" level), retro camera (just for fun), ES File explorer for general file browsing, google maps and nav (if not preinstalled), wi-fi hotspot (should come with 2.2 I think) and Handcent for SMS.
