MotherBoard on the left side?

Hey i've doing mods to computers for a while... and started running dry on ideas but than as i was looking at an old old case i thought hey why not put my MoBo on the left side ? that would be different i need to make a back panel for all the plugs anyways. only problem i see in doing this is the lack of room for my mother board and PSU any ideas on what to do here ? the chasis is the same on both left and right side thats what gave me the idea for this of course il have the usual, lights,fans,switches,and pretty colors,window..... so so forth

I would cut a new hole for the psu to mount sideways and shave the excess metal to clear a way for the mobo. Might take a little metal shaping or just screwing on metal to mount the psu but not a difficult task at all. With the psu on its side, now you have a little pocket to hide extra cords. Just a suggestion.

Hmmmm. i was thinking that i may "sleep" the computer? so that it looks really old and take to lan party to have Ppl liek wtf that runs farcry?!? or something like that? but i do like the psu idea. ya there is no doubt to the metal shaping ill need to do with this one..... i think i want to put a new screen in the front like the one that used to say 166 and have it say like 3.0 or 3000 some thing like that?

i was just thinking about this whole thing knowing that impossible means nothing more than it will take more time...... and i realized the mobo will have to be flipped upside so the plugs are in the back ? is this bad for the mobo and or cards/ components? let me plz somone.

I'm not completely familiar with Intel's BTX M/B standard but a lot of the cases I've seen for it are left sided. The left side M/B is supposed to provide better cooling for the CPU since it will be below the GPU(s) and theoretically be getting cooler air.

Some comercial cases that I've seen mount the PSU on the bottom.
Like the Aerocool masstige
Others keep the PSU on the top like the
Silverstone TJ-06 Wind Tunnel. This one uses a "wind tunnel" to cool the CPU.

Does that case have a M/B tray? That should make it easier to do.

edit: no all components can be mounted any direction. It used to be that HDDs were picky but that was way back in the RLL/MFM days when you had to manually park your drives.

I thought they still were. Something about the bearing being designed to support the platter... Sideways is ok, but not upside down.

Pretty certain i've heard this too.

Anyone remember how the loading times on the PS1 were supposedly better when it was on it's side? Hence the reason the PS2 can be put upright. Not sure if it actually makes a difference for the PS2 though.

I was going to say the whole it's going to be upside down thing, but you beat me to it. As far as I know it won't hurt anything to have it upside down... in fact I bet it will be good for you vid. card, as heat goes up the heat from you GPU won't just go into the PCB but instead go to the heatsink and dissipate faster.... but of course all the heat of your case will also go up so you may want some fans at the top to get rid of some of the hot air.

hmmm, i think it should all fit once everything is cut, and the psu is moved on its side or up. but personally i see no reason to put the motherboard on the left side, the area inside the case is so small that i doubt the cooling would be any better. that case has some modding potential, i think it would look really sweet with a paint job and some cooling.

thanx ya im having doubts about thiscase there is a mobo tray that is no good to me the mobo i plan on using is just over 12 inches tall and 9.5 inches long so its a monster and i think the case is about 14 -15" tall soooo this is seriuos relocation for that psu ? is it really worth it or should i buy a new biege and mod that ? biege boxes have so much potential thats my case of choice for moding specialy the ones with few fan holes and vents so I can put them where i want them.
