Default How to connect front panel to sound card

    Hello,

I found this forum while i was looking for this common sounding question. However, I didn't find an answer that applied to my case.

This forum seems like a friendly environment to unleash my outrageously noobie question. So here goes:

I have a sound card that looks like the one shown here http://www.hardware.windowsreinstall.com/soundcards.htm
Those three black things on the left side have 4 pins each.

The cables coming out of the front panel look like this:

Is it possible to connect these with the sound card somehow?

    Thanks beforehand and kind regards,
    Fruitbat

    Hi There, welcome to TBCS!

Unfortunately, the headers on that card are for audio inputs, so you wouldnt be able to connect the front panel headphone jack to it.

The other possibility is to make a connector cable to run through the case, and out to the rear jacks on the soundcard. That way, the front jacks are simply redirected to the plugs on the back of the card. You still have the functionality of the front jacks (easy access), which is nicer than having to reach behind the computer to plug in headphones all the time.

Alternately, most onboard sound now has header pins to connect front panel audio jacks, so if you have onboard sound on your motherboard, consider using that instead of the sound card, particularly if the card is older than the mobo. Chances are that the onboard sound will sound better anyways if the mobo is newer!

I forgot to mention my onboard is defective. Connector cable it is then.
