    Default 8800 Gt

I recently installed an 8800 GT card on my desktop. I wanted to test out its capabilities, so I fired up a NFS Shift demo that I had (only game right now haven't installed any yet). After about one lap my whole screen got bright purple and pixelated and locked up. I was running the game at 1366x768 no AA but everything else maxed out. I thought it was the temps but this is what SpeedFan read at the time of the lockup.

    Temp 1: 39C
    Temp 2: 49C
    Temp 3: 46C
    HD0 : 38C
    Core: 41C
    GPU: 54C
    Core: 54C
    Ambient: 44C

Those temperatures just don't seem high enough to cause a lockup. Is the card failing on me? I have the 8800 fan at 100% when I was playing. I have 2GB RAM, 2.9Ghz AMD dual with stock cooler and a Rosewill 600W.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that's nowhere near hot enough to cause lockups...maybe try updating the driver?

that was happening to me when i got my 4870. the computer would lock up and shut down by its self. turned out my power supply didnt have enough amps on the 12 volts rails to allow my video card to run normal. it was fine as long as i wasn't playing anything requiring a video card.

id say try it on different games.

what power supply and video card are you using. put links up please.

I also had the latest drivers when this happened. I think it's faulty memory on the card.

Hmm, yeah, unless something is seriously wrong with your PSU I'd guess something's wrong with the GPU. Is it still under warranty?

I hope it's not the PSU, I just bought it like 3 weeks ago. And the 8800 i bought from someone here on the forums. I don't think it's the PSU anyways because I tried playing again and it happened again. I let it sit for like 2 min and it gave me some error saying the nVidia display driver has stopped working.

the 8800 gt needs at least 24 amps on the rails you have 19. try switching out your power supply for something better. if that dose not do the trick then its the card.

But it has 2 rails posted at 19 amps a piece, doesn't the card pull from both rails? Making it 38 amps. This card definitly shouldn't be a problem for this PSU.
