    Default Where to find fan mounting brackets?

    I am looking for some generic fan mounting brackets for a project.

    I could always make my own, but this will be for a customer and I need to be able to purchase something instead of making it. The main issue is cost. They will not want to pay me by the hour to make a 90 degree fan mounting bracket. I already had to cut the drive mounting tray to fit the video card.

    Here's teaser:

    I am stuffing an EATX mobo into a 15: deep 4u rackmount ATX case. Worklog soon.

    These are the only ones I know of. Where are you wanting to mount them?

    I am mounting the fan where part of the drive cage used to be. I really just need to get some more airflow through this chassis since I will be putting a GTX480 into it and I know they run hot.

    I lucked out that there were already standoff holes in the chassis to accommodate the motherboard. The main problem was fitting the GTX480 in this chassis since the card is 10.5" long. The drive cage was covering the whole front of the chassis and it was screwed together. A few screws and I was able to separate the bottom plate and then took the dremel to it. The sales guy could not even tell I cut it, since it looks like it should have been that way all along.

    Now I need to mount a 120mm fan to the top drive bay plate to get some air in the case... The second link you posted, looks like it will work with minor modification. I am going to have to order one for testing (or 2 in case I dork it up).

    Here is the open chassis showing the drive cage as delivered;

    A shot with the mobo and test video card in place (heh a $2500 test card...);

    A shot of the modified drive cage installed with the video card;

    ...and this is where I want to put a fan;

    This is only a prototype and if they go into full production I need to keep the build time to a minimum to maximize profit! This is why I don't want to make something. We do have a local fabricator I can contact to make some one off brackets and since we do a lot of business with him they will be fairly inexpensive

    Thanks for the help guys!

    I have an idea to mount those, let me sketch this up for you.

    Thanks Luke! This is the simplest idea I have seen and will be really easy to implement. There are already holes in the top panel I can use so no drilling required.

    Well, after trying several times to create something out of plexi, I failed big time, over and over. I gave up on that idea and this morning when I got to work, I scrounged some fan trays out of an old Sun Server and hacked it up to make it work. If this turns out to be a final working spec, I can have the bracket custom made for very cheap. I will get a photo up of the before and after tomorrow...

    And here I was thinking that it would be simple to accomplish. Oh well, I tried.

    I think if I had more time an patience, I could have pulled it off. I tried to rush the mounting pieces and kept dorking them up.
