My Mouse's battery just blew up

It's completely ruined my mousemat. I seem to have caught it before it did any damage to the actual mouse though. This has literally just happened. I'll post a pic when i get a chance-let this be a lesson, don't mix old and new batteries! This sort of thing happened to anyone else?

I had a "D" cell battery blow up while sitting on my dresser. It was one of the batteries with a self tester built in. I've never owned another one of those.

It blew up; I mean jumped 3" off the desk and fell to the floor leaving white bubbly acid behind it. I heard a pop looked up and saw it hit peek height then fall and roll to the floor. It then sat there fizzing for 5 mins or more, and was real hot when finally picked it up.

how did you get the acid off the dresser? i mean you cant just wipe that up you can really get hurt!!! and its a good thing you weren't hurt... that could really do some damage!

Baking soda should neutrilize the acid.



of course it would making some hydrogen gas, according to my friend.

Battries contained nitric acid so put a lighter or match other it and it should pop because it releases hydrogen!! (Sorry I sounded like a nerd Science was my best subject!)

id find out if there was a recall on them that sounds realy crazy maybe the manufacture will give some nifty prizes if you promiss not to sue them ROFL => serously thought you should warn them if they dont know that stuff can hurt ya

Wouldnt that make it nitrogen? I had this crazy friend who was a scientific genius - also the funniest person ive ever met. He never talked, but when he did it was always something incredibly funny or incredibly clever. He once made a load of hydrogen using a homemade hydrolysis device (using big drill batteries) and filled a load of bottles full of hydrogen - the kids on the bus were always throwing bottles around so he showed them what a real bottle fight was like and they never did it again He later built a 7ft high van de graff generator (sp?) in his shed. It's a shame though, he smoked too much weed and dropped out of school - Although is now making thousands on 2 ringtone and porn websites that he set up. He is 16 and earning more than most adults
