    Default 3rd master hard disk error

    does this pretty much mean my hdd is dying or what?

    I'd get some backups off it to be safe, and maybe start testing it to find out for sure. PC Check is good, Spinrite is EXCELLENT. I highly recommend buying it!

    I just bought this drive in the summer, because my last one went out. I can't even get past the screen that says the error.

    Hmm.. can you try a different cable on it? I'd slave it to another machine, or attach it with a USB interface to get the data from it. If possible, shut it right down, and let it sit for a few hours before attempting the backups.. sometimes just cooling it off will let it run better.

    I guess I will buy another cable. This comes at a terrible time for that thing to fail. I don't wanna spend the money on another hdd.

    Once you get your backups off, confirm that it actually is failing.

    Check it for loose wires, I've had that be the problem before
