Default Upgrading my gfx card: advice needed

    Hi all.
I currently have a 6600GT AGP card and it has treated me very well - no driver problems whatsoever, easy installation, pretty cheap etc. But I have only been playing counterstrike on it, which it has handled pretty well. However, with the release of the map 'militia' the card realy cannot handle such a graphics intensive map. I also want to get bf2 and play it online, and I dont feel that I can get the most out of the game with the 6600GT.

With this in mind, I have decided to save up some money and buy a better card. I am a poor student and only 16 with no job - my only income comes from selling my art (stencil graffiti on canvas/tshirt/peoples bedrooms etc. etc.) (if anyone is interested in a canvas or painted vinyl for cheap PM me! ) so getting the money takes a while. Because of this I can only upgrade ever so often, so I am looking for a card which will play the latest games on high settings well.

I have been looking at the 7800GTX cards, and they seem to be in my price range, although I am currently on an AGP mobo but I think that my mum would buy me a new mobo if I bought the card!
Is this a good choice or are there better alternatives?
My system at the moment is in my sig!
    Cheers

umm....your sig says 9100...but anyways I would suggest that the 7800 GTX is a very nice card. even though i haven't yet had the pleasure of playing on it. find a card and post the one you wan to buy on here. you will get more help that way

go with the eVGA 7800GT OC. not the BFG GT OC, because the clocks are slower and it's 100$ more.

the eVGA 7800GT OC will run you just about 350$, and for the price/performance, it can't be beat. then you can either run two of 'em, or overclock it further. (if you want to. for BF2 and CSS, the 7800GT OC is more than enough GPU power.)

That sounds an awesome deal! Thanks!
Do you think that 2 of the EVGA 7800GT cards

in SLI would be better than one EVGA 7800GTX such as this one:

I am going to go read up on SLI and see whats what as I have no experience in that area! But your help would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

I would wait. 7900 should come out pretty soon and 7800 prices will drop. If you followed prices, about a week ago there were huge sales for 7800GTs which mean new cards are just around the corner.

Just to update - My mum agreed to loan me the money because we are visiting my bro in san diego next week for 2 weeks and price differences are so huge between the US and the UK, it would cost me 150% of what it costs in the US to buy the gfx card, mobo, and psu in england!
So I bought a 7900GTX from newegg.com and it has arrived at my brother's house along with my psu, mobo, and some other bits and peices that looked fun! (I needed a floppy drive to install the mobo drivers, so why not buy a floppy with integrated 7 in 1 card reader?

I also figured that I can now realy try to push my 6600GT as far as I can!
The stock clocks for it are
    core: 500Mhz
    Memory: 1.12Ghz

    It is currently stable at
    core: 591Mhz
    Memory: 1.3Ghz

I can now step my resolution up in battlefield 2 to 1280x1024 for playing on my new 19" TFT monitor and it runs smoothly on the settings i used pre overclock. (Realy, Realy low settings haha!)

    Peace
    H
