    Default Dremel vs. Cheap knock-off.

All you guys seem to use and recommend dremels. I checked in the local hardware store. The dremel is $250 NZD with a 5yr warranty. I also saw another knock-off (orite?) and it was only $60 with a 3yr warranty. I dont have a lot of money and I dont plan to spend a lot of my time case modding.

Is it worth splitting the extra cash for the dremel?

Oh, How much are Dremels in the US?

Try ebay for cheapness. I have a cheap knock-off, the actual drill's allright, but the bits that it came with are poor. It only cost me about $14 so i'm sure this is one case where i'm actually getting more than i paid for.

definately go on ebay. $250 is way to much unless it comes with all the attachments and toys with it. Where i live (california) for the dual spped dremel alone is about $45. happy hunting and modding

The Black-N-Decker knock-off is the same as the dremmel.

The Dremmel is the works well and good to start with. As you start doing more you will want the speciality tools to do each task. (I want a Laser to cut Acrylic now but the 10,000 price tag makes me wait).

I have a Dremel and a Ryobi moto tool. The Ryobi is a better tool even though it costs less...It has 1/2Hp rating...It cuts through metal allot better then the dremel. They don't sell them in the states anymore (atleast not where I live), but I have seen them on Ryobi's overseas website so you may beable to still get one over there....I love mine...But there are more toys...tools out for the Dremel so I keep around!

Just remember most of the time you get what you pay for so Pick a name brand Knockoff they'll work better....Oh, The Sears rotory tool is a dremel...just with the sears logo

Good Luck, Happy hunting (Go EBAY)

I just looked on eBay and they are only like $60 USD! They are like 4x the price over here!

So I think I might put forward the extra cash and get a Dremel since there isnt a big price difference any way!

Oh, an warranty Do dremels break down?

Thanks for helping solve my problems

My dremel has never broken. It was about 60 USD and has multiple speeds, came with a bunch of attachments, and a warrenty. I guess I just costs more where you live, it might be cheaper to buy one on eBay and pay the expensive shipping than it is to buy it at the pricey tag you spoke of. 250 bucks?!!!?!

I would NOT pay that much for a Dremel tool.

Looking at the conversion of NZ to US .. it looks like 250 NZ$ is about 169 US$. I have seen the Dremel XPR 400 with ALL the attachments and 90 accessories go for right at $140. So I am hoping the package your referring to has all that. And when I say ALL attachments I mean:

    XPR MultiSaw attachment
    XPR Planer attachment
    Flex Light attachment
    Flex Shaft attachment
    Circle Cutter attachment
    NEW XPR Storage Case
    +90 accessory bits.

Hope that gives you some comparison.
