    Default Which is better dual P2 550Mhz or 2 individual P3 933Mhz?

I have come to the forum for help on this one, I don't want to make a bad choice. First off, I have been wanting a simple server for gaming and file sharing server but never had the cash for it. I have had the luck of receiving a pallet of computers cases from eBay, and thought that the computers were all junk and would be nice to use as Dremel practice. I was shocked to find some of the computers were in good condition and had possibilities. But I have never had experience with dual processors and thus I am unsure of which is better...

    2 X Pentium 2 @ 550Mhz dual mode
    2 X 512Mhz @ 100Mhz unbuffered?

    --OR--

    -- 2 @ Each --
    Pentium 3 @ 933Mhz
    2 X 512Mhz @ 100Mhz

410MT and combo of the two E-3400 can take up the same amount of space and power but the E-3400 would seem better for the speed but in can only hold two hard drives up front ( the hard drive is designed to go on top of the power supply but that just seemed redundant, basically asking for something to go wrong) where at the 410MT can hold 4 Drives allow for everything to be on one machine. I wish I could keep both but the wife said "NO" . All well, your help is greatly appreciated.

IF you are running a gaming server go for power,

    Pentium 3 @ 933Mhz
    2 X 512Mhz @ 100Mhz

    Are good.

Alright, that what I was kind of thinking about, but I got to seeing too many doubles and lost sight of which is one to do. Thank you very much. Now, to post a thread about painting them or find one that already has it.

Hey dude, been a while since you've been on these forums.
I know this guy, we went to tech school together.

Yea, the p3's are your best bet.
Another idea (if you don't mind tearing up some cases) is to take out the drive bays from a case you're not going to use and implant them into your case so you can hold more hard drives if needed. Or just rip the whole thing out and fabricate one.

Hey Nil8, glad to see ya active still, i was wondering. I like the idea of putting in some extra drive space in. I have plenty of scrap cases and would get to picture it and post all of the "Scrap Metal" I have but batteries died. I need some of those water batteries, curse these stupid non water batteries I have . But, I did get a picture of the case though last night, I think I can fit it in next to the video card, tell me what you think.

Sorry for going off topic for a sec ...

i think if you can figure out a way to fasten another drive bay to the back of the case there, it should fit. it doesnt necessarily have to be inside the case though, you could make a nice little housing on top of the case too.

That sounds like a good idea, that even reminds me that I have acquired old power supplies. I thought they would be worth only for metal but when I took a second look, they look like a hide away box for water cooling. Now they have a second purpose in their life or third ... Any way here is the picture of the box and also to show off supply of scrap metal to Nil8. Also that is one of the E-3400 that the box is on.

Once again sorry for leaving topic . . .

You bought a UMR pallet. Didn't you?

It's your topic, tread off topic. No biggie.
I'm surprised you're using a desktop case instead of one of those towers.

Yes I did, and I thought it would be all junk, too. I was shocked on what was found, besides practice for a dremel.

I would love to use one of the many towers that I have stacked up there, but either they had a pentium 2 motherboard in them or they had a pentium 3 motherboard in them that was DOA. The E-3400's motherboard is OEM, as you can sort of see in the pic of my motherbard, there is the PCI slots standing up against the power supply. After looking it in another way, the E-3400s, when stacked one on the other. take less room than two towers it would take to house the same equip, plus the case are plastic so all i have to do is get some of that paint for plastic and ill be set :p .

If it does what you need, go for it.
I see the pci riser card.
Good paint should work on both metal and plastic.

What have you been up to the past couple of years?
