Thread: Oh boy...

    Default Oh boy...

Hey, I was running some of my wires behind the side of my case and when I went to plug my PSU back into the wall a puff of smoke went up and I heard a pop. However, since my PSU is modular I quickly detached the cable that I had just recently changed and I went to try it again (stupid I know). Well, everything actually seems to be working fine. Do you think I should still be worried? I dont plan on using the one connector that seemed to be the problem. What do you think?

Where did the smoke come from? The wire, or from inside the psu?

Is there visible evidence of a short?

The smoke came out of the vent on the back of the PSU. I cannot see any evidence of a short, however I haven't cracked the thing open.

And I have had it on for a solid hour now and I have restarted it and shut it down completely numerous times. It still seems to be just fine.

Still scary as hell.. I wouldnt trust that PSU. If it's still under warranty, get it replaced!

Yeah, I have emailed them and now I get to go through the fun process of sending my PSU back to them and waiting for a new one... yippie. But atleast it will be fixed and they were pretty prompt about returning my email.
