    Default Temp2.exe

"temp2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Send error report?"

I keep getting this message every time I turn on my computer. Everything is running fine. I just did a fresh install of windows xp, sp3. Looking around online, most places suggest it may be a virus, but every scan I run comes back clean. What can I do to fix this?

    start - run - msconfig

Find it in the list of Startup, and remove the checkmark from it to stop it from starting.

If I'm not mistaken (which I might be) that would be a temperature monitoring application.. did you install the apps that came with your mobo?

Possibly a virus then? Run a Windows Live One Care safety scan (free online scan.. very good!) and see if it catches anything.

Have you tried to find the temp2.exe file? Do a search for it.. the location might answer what it actually is.

Well, I don't know if it was the Windows Live One, or I finally found the right thing to delete, but I don't have the problem anymore. Thanks for your help Luke! +rep
