    it will basically fry the absolute crap out of it.. even with very very advanced cooling the processor will overheat and melt, lol.

    (u can do a small .2 overclock with a bit of cooling no worries, but there is not that much of a difference to bother with)

    they've overclocked a video card to (core speed) to the 1ghz barrier.... it was cooled with liquid nitrogen... pretty sweet if you ask me

    Ya the danger with overclocking is that, as you increase the processors speed, you need to push that speed with more voltage (or it becomes unstable, and randomly shuts down, freezes etc.) Voltage is what causes all that extra heat inside the chip's core, and so if you try to push the voltage too high, bye bye processor.
    But overclocking is a relatively safe practice if you know what you're doing, and what the limits of your system are.

    With stock cooling, i've overclocked my amd 2600+ (Barton) from 1.9ghz to 2.3ghz... problem is, i can only do that in winter =P

    I've never messed with overclocking other then a little but id like to try does anyone have any links to sites for things like proper voltage setings how high difrent types of processors can go Ect Ect? I have been told the 478 is one of the best for overclocking because its a cold runing CPU is this ture? Ive never run one just my Socket A's and an old POS 370

    Thanks in advance

    The Holly Grail Procs of OCing that I know of are
    Granted there are alot more, but these are not I got windows to boot and took a snap shot, saved and the computer died.

    Intel 2.4b 3.2 Gigs
    intel 2.4c 3.1 Gigs
    AMD Opteron 144 1.7G -=> 3.0 Gig (Faster than a FX 57)
    AMD 3800 X2 is being reported as a good OCer as well to 4800+ speeds.
