that is correct, i've got the two kernels on my machine, and im going through them now, in the vista kernel you can see its come from server 2003 which is waht vista was built on, the latest windows always uses the last kernel as a base.
And in Win 7 you can see the server 2008 bits, you can also see bits taken from vista, it looks almost as if the windows 7 kernel has had a redesign, it seems more efficient, streamlined so to speak,
As said above it looks like a redesign, i would guess at this stage that they haven't built it upon vista, but used parts from vista that worked, then tweaked them to perform better than before.
Hence why this version of windows runs soo well on a VM, i would give this windows the thumbs up.
